Newest Composition

Here is a composition I completed last month.:

http://www.kglyphics.com/music/composition1.mp3

I'm thinking of trying to compose something once a month... we'll see.

Also I've been working on some calculations based on a new theory of mine in regards to the periodic table of elements. Figuring out the speed of each element based on einstein's e=mc2. Kind of dry... almost done though then I can redesign the table according to this theory.

Earth Matters Poster

This is for an earth awareness week my college is sponsoring.  I had my mayan coloring book and was looking through it for inspiration and found the image of the snake which is an image widely worshiped in the mayan culture. Snakes represented wisdom and mystical knowledge.

I then had an vision/flash for this poster... using a grundgey effect along with the cartoon/vector style I wanted it to speak to a time when the earth was lush and full.

Apparently this is going into some national publication soon, I don't know much about it but that's what my adviser said, so we'll see what happens with that.

Honors Posters

As part of project manager for studio south I had to make sure 20 something posters were printed and designed within a month. Last year we got about 27 posters in a span of five days and was so disorganized I didn't know anyone's skills so I had to do most of them to make sure the students' got them. This year we got a bit more organized and was a lot less stressful. It was rough at the end as one of the designers claimed they didn't get the schedule of dates for the project... and threw the poster together last minute. Above is the poster I did, sorry it the picture is a bit blurry I took it with my ipod. :-)

Cape House Ornament

I had made quite a few of my gifts this year. I got a print of one of my photos for dad, made a necklace for my grandma, and one for my mom. I also busted my ass off this ornament.. its the cape house. My dad and I decided that she needed one so he helped me cut it out of wood and I painted it and decorated it.

On the tree :)
Just a bit disappointed that she never actually said she "loved it". She was really happy with it and was pleased by it.

Maybe I expect too much from her.....
sometimes I feel like she takes things I make for her for granted, which usually makes me not want to make anything at all..she seemed to like this starfish bowl I got her more. Sigh.

Truth Movement propaganda brochure

This project was confusing it said to do a brochure on propaganda on a conflict/war... so a brochure on the war/movement itself or just on propaganda FROM the conflict/war?

This was our project description:

"Do a presentation on propaganda. Prepare a presentation of any type including visuals, audio, or life performance. You can do a demonstration or give a Power Point/Keynote presentation.  You may also do a scrapbook, brochure, or newsletter, which does not require a presentation. A bibliography must be submitted with this project. Due to the size of the class, presentations must be limited to 5-7 minutes."

Yeah...

EDIT: She graded it right away and I got an A :) guess I was overthinking again :P

Amnesty International Poster

Oh my. This was a poster for a competition that we were required to submit to for Amnesty International for my Artists as Activists class. We were supposed to have done this as a group project, but two sorority girls (who have no design experience what-so-ever) took over and didn't really want to work with anyone who had experience. They had their mind set on one design, and you can't create an effective poster based off one comp/sketch.

I think one of them may have been a design minor or something, but still just because you take a design class or two doesn't mean you're a designer =/

But I ended up taking what was discussed in class because I thought we were doing this together and no one liked my version (lol). Honestly... sure we all have opinions but we needed to work together and that's what was not happening.

So this is what I came up with.

Finalized Logo

So I added one last change to this logo and I think I got it. Those that had a problem with it said it was too blocky/structured and I think the change above fixes that! Yay!

Also there are lady bugs mysteriously in my suite. My dorm is very secure as it is new and I thought it was weird that there but I took it as a good sign. So I did a Rune reading and the two runes that I grabbed from the bag together was the Wunjo, which in the futhark script is written as a "P" and Isa, which is written as a "I" and so it spells, "PI" or as I read it, "Professional Internship", this was a question regarding my disney internship. Synchronistic much? Between the lady bugs and the rune reading, I'll be very surprised if I DON'T get the internship.

I mean if they really didn't want me, they'd probably tell me pretty early, right?
Trying to stay neutral, but so many positive "signs" that its hard not to.

You can probably tell I'm dying from anxiety right? So anxious to hear from them! :)

WunjoWunjo: (W or V: Joy.) Joy, comfort, pleasure. Fellowship, harmony, prosperity. Ecstasy, glory, spiritual reward, but also the possibility of going "over the top". If restrained, the meaning is general success and recognition of worth. Wunjo Reversed or Merkstave: Stultification, sorrow, strife, alienation. Delirium, intoxication, possession by higher forces, impractical enthusiasm. Raging frenzy, berzerker.

IsaIsa(I: Ice.) A challenge or frustration. Psychological blocks to thought or activity, including grievances. Standstill, or a time to turn inward and wait for what is to come, or to seek clarity. This rune reinforces runes around it. Isa Merkstave (Isa cannot be reversed, but may lie in opposition): Ego-mania, dullness, blindness, dissipation. Treachery, illusion, deceit, betrayal, guile, stealth, ambush, plots.

Package Design Project

This is my package design project for my portfolio class.
The concept was to develop a package for a product that is a reflection of the company we created this semester. Since my 'company' I'm using is my k glyphics graphic design business I went with the whole "speaking to the past" stigma that most of my designs I have created this semester have.

The idea for this herb/spice line is a gift to a client that would have spent a lot of money on our services. Its like a hand out.

The line is a herb/spice/pigment line containing a herb/spice/pigment from an ancient culture that we're (I'm) inspired from. The reasons behind choosing each of the herb/spice/pigment is symbolic and has connections to mysticism and mythology.

I chose "Lucifer" as the name of the line. The name derives from the Latin term lucem ferre, bringer, or bearer, of light.

In mysticism, Adam from the Biblical “Adam and Eve”, refers to the atom form, and Eve refers to the light emanating from that form. Eve is the dawning of creation, the coming of the light. Eve is likewise, the evening, the end of the light. This symbolizes the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega, of the bringer of light. Adam and Eve together, are symbolic names for the electrically charged atom symbol, which in turn symbolize the light bringer, the bright morning and evening stars. Together they represent the creator of light, the creator god called lucifer, …who is the light bringer.

The herb/spice/pigments are:

Egyptian Blue "irtiu, sbedj" / Saffron of India "Kesar, Zafran" / chocolate of mexico "xocolatl"

Facebook Redesign

I haven't been doing any design to just to do it for fun. So I took a couple of hours off last week one day and did a basic redesign of facebook. Redesigning websites like facebook are great projects because the site focuses on user interfacing more often than not. This was just for fun.

Completed Wayfinding

My wayfinding project is almost done. God, was that a lot of work. I just have to do the outside entrance sign and parking garage signage and I'll be done.

It's due tomorrow so I have tonight to work on them. This was definitely a project I struggled with only because it was completely out of my element (print/infographics) but at the same time it was in my element. It also dealt with typography which I'm not necessarily a fan of. I also applied the signs to different views from a 3d model of a building I sketched in Google Sketchup. Which I'll post later.

I just am really pleased with the overall feeling of this. I took the layout of the information on an element from the periodic table and used the idea of grouping text like that. Taking the element abbreviation as an icon and kind of went from there.

Environmental Signage Project

So I have this wayfinding/environmental signage project due wednesday. Almost done with it and definitely one I struggled with. Funny because its what got me into graphic design in the first place. I wanted to base the wayfinding in my 'pretend' building off my logo's personality. Something that was playful but has a bit of seriousness to it.

I'm not really sure with this... definitely not my strongest piece yet this semester. "Elevator/office" may be hard to read... and it doesn't have Public Domain symbols which may be a problem for those who can't read too well... I guess with signage you can't assume most of your employees can read... anyway. I have it applied to most of the views in the 3d model of the building. I think I'll just leave it for now and see what the class says.

Family Beach Photo Tiles

These are the tiles I decoupaged for my father for father's day. We have just bought a cape house on Cape Cod. I started going there when I was six months old so Cape Cod has been a big part of my life even though we only go there for a week every summer. We've been going to the same house for every summer since I was six months old. But since my parents are looking to retire soon (after I graduate) they decided to buy a house in Eastham. It is close to the town we used to go to every summer and about 30 an hour away from Provincetown. I thought it would be a nice present to use some of the digital family photos we have kept in archive on the main computer and decoupaged them on to white tiles using scrapbook paper. My town's recycling center has a take it or leave it place for things you want to get rid of. You can find a lot of decent items there. I've gotten frames, and other craft supplies. I found a couple dozen plain white tiles and thought I could probably do something with them. I took them and here is what I used them for... The idea arose when my mom told me the kitchen counter top couldn't hold heat and needed a heat coaster, so I decoupaged six costers for whatever use.

Today I finished them. I used grey felt for the back and furniture feet for the coasters. I still need to put another coat of varnish on them and will do that soon.
